Who should take this program?

If you’ve always wanted to take scuba diving lessons, experience unparalleled adventure and see the world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. Get your scuba diving certification with the PADI Open Water Diver course – the world’s most popular and widely recognized scuba course. Millions of people have learned to scuba dive and have gone on to discover the wonders of the aquatic world through this course. To enroll in a PADI Open Water Diver course (or Junior Open Water Diver course), you must be 10 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required.

What will you learn?

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:

  • Knowledge Development – take the PADI eLearning course to understand basic principles of scuba diving
  • Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills
  • Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore!

Equipment you will use

In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear, including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device and a tank. The equipment you wear varies, depending upon whether you’re diving in tropical, temperate or cold water.

Check with us about the gear you’ll use during this course and get advice about what you need and what we furnish. We have relationships with local dive shops that offer outstanding value to our customers. We also have relationships with eCommerce businesses if you are certain about your gear selections and sizing needs. We are happy to pass along our discounts.

Course Options

Open Water Diver – Full Course

This is the entire course end-to-end with the instructors of Compass Dive and Sail. You will be provided your choice of Open Water Diver Online, PADI’s eLearning or the Open Water Diver Touch, PADI’s home-study course available for tablet devices. After completing the required learning we will begin your Confined Water dives. Once completed, we will schedule you to attend one of our Lake Phoenix Camp & Dive Weekends to complete your Open Water checkout dives. That’s it, everything is included. No additional hidden costs.

Open Water Diver – Referral

At Compass Dive and Sail we recognize that sometimes people are looking to start their training locally, then complete it in an exotic vacation destination. No problem, we’ve got that covered too! Of course we can take you on one of our really cool dive trips and finish your training there. If you are already planning a trip and want to finish your certification on your trip, we will work with you to get you from the initial independent study through your Confined Water dives. We will then provide you with the referral paperwork and a recommendation for a PADI Dive Center to complete your Open Water checkout dives, at no additional cost.

Open Water Diver – Pool & OW Dives

Have you completed your PADI eLearning and now need a dive professional to finish your training? No problem, we’ve got that covered too! We regularly have customers referred to us after they complete the academic portion of their training. Your training will include professional instruction and academic review, pool dives and open water checkout dives as well as a BCD, regulator and dive computer. Additionally we provide your admission to the quarry, one night camping along with breakfast, lunch and dinner for day one of your checkout dives and breakfast on day two.
